Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) 101

It is the Immigration Services Agency of Japan that handles the CoE.

How to obtain the CoE?

Applications for the CoE must be submitted in Japan to the Immigration Services Agency of Japan.

Who should apply for the CoE?

• Your host entity or sponsor in Japan. This may be your future school, employer, Japanese spouse, Japanese in-laws, an event organizer, a dōjō, a host family, etc.
• If you do not have one, you must contact the Immigration Services Agency of Japan directly to explain your situation.
